Building Consent Approvals Ltd (BCAL) is on the verge of being officially registered as New Zealand's first Accredited and truly independent Building Consent Authority - and we’re looking for a Technical Lead to play a key role in that journey.

As BCAL’s Technical Lead, you’ll provide expert advice and guidance to our teams, contractors, and clients across the country. You’ll be the go-to person for technical excellence, supporting the accurate interpretation and application of the Building Act, NZ Building Code, and associated regulations. Your focus will be on helping BCAL and its partners navigate complex issues with clarity, integrity, and confidence.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As our Technical Lead, you will be the cornerstone of BCAL’s technical capability, providing high-level expert guidance across all areas of building control. You’ll work closely with the Building Control Manager and Quality Assurance team to support compliance, manage risk, and uphold our IANZ accreditation.

You will:

· Provide expert, current advice on the Building Act, NZ Building Code, standards, and regulatory requirements.

· Communicate complex technical issues clearly and constructively.

· Support and mentor staff and contractors to ensure excellence in technical delivery.

· Assist with training, audits, and competency reviews.

· Engage with stakeholders across industry and government to build trust and solve problems.

· Help shape the technical framework and best practices that will support BCAL’s national growth.
