We seek an enthusiastic, highly motivated person to join our busy Building Control Services team. We are very customer focused and require someone who is able to help our customers in enabling development in Upper Hutt whilst ensuring that building work meets legislative requirements and standards.

The Building Control Officer (Consents) will play an important role working within the Building Control Services team to ensure building applications are processed efficiently, and to a high standard. Primarily you will be responsible for processing building consent applications, ensuring compliance with Building Act/Building Code provisions and providing customers with advice and guidance for building related matters.

You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records and information databases in support of the Council's continued status as an accredited Building Control Authority.

Ideally you will have:

  • a sound knowledge of the Building Act and Building Code;
  • a relevant technical qualification for performing building control functions;
  • an ability to confidently and clearly communicate technical issues and concepts;
  • an excellent customer service focus, including good listening skills;
  • competent computer skills;
  • good administration and organisation skills;
  • a current driver's licence.
