The people at Whakatāne District Council love what we do because we do it for others, and that feels good. We work hard and we know it's important to stop and play too. We work where we work best, whether it's the office or home. We're on a learning journey because we know we can always do better, and we know we're better together. Will you come on that journey with us?

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

In this role you'll deliver high quality technical advice on all aspects of the building consent process to ensure alignment of the Building Act 2004. You will be competent in residential processing and if you have commercial processing experience too that would be fantastic. We are an AlphaOne user for processing, inspections, and certification and knowledge of this would be an advantage however we are always learning and improving at WDC so be prepared to keep learning on your journey with us.

We keep our communities informed and using your great communications skills you'll provide information and advice to customers relating to building consent applications. We trust and support each other so we trust you to undertake research and work with minimum supervision, knowing when something significant needs to be escalated, you'll do just that.

Ko wai koe | About you

You'll be joining a team that envisions being better together, so you'll be a team player that upholds the values that a bunch of staff developed together (see below). You'll hold an NZ Diploma in Building Control Surveying or a similar related building qualification. You'll be experienced in consenting, inspections, or compliance (or a combination) and have relevant experience in the building industry. Previous recent local government experience is a plus.

You'll get access to a range of staff benefits. You'll never be more than half an hour away from rivers, lakes, forests, beaches and great walks - most are just on your doorstep. We love this place and you will too.
