At any time quality advice is a highly valued and critical commodity, but especially so in the current building boom.

This role is a unique, two-fold opportunity to contribute your extensive working knowledge and experience to the wider building and construction industry through writing, publishing and presenting technical information; and providing technical advice through the Helpline.

Working alongside the Principal Writer, you will

  • research, write and source supporting illustrations/photographs for a range of information products;
  • contribute to developing project scopes within the publishing and education schedule;
  • liaise with internal and external commentators and editors on issues from content and style to peer reviews of work.
  • You will also prepare and present technical information at seminars, webinars, on social media and at industry presentations around the country.

Working closely with the Helpline Adviser you will provide, or source, competent and technically correct first port of call advice. This spans physical building requirements, regulations and standards, assisting anyone across the broad spectrum of commercial and residential sectors to meet compliance requirements. Communication is primarily by phone, in order to ensure you gain an in-depth understanding of the query, provide advice on the spot, or use good judgement to escalate the enquiry to the committed technical experts across the organisation.

Your ability to translate technical knowledge into a language the industry understands is essential, although it is readily accepted that there will undoubtedly be areas of development and education, which the significant resources available will assist with. Your confidence in presenting, and superior communication skills both verbal and written will come into play. You will need at least a working knowledge of the NZ building code, excellent time and project management skills, computer literacy, and the ability to “walk the talk” with the building trade, genuinely connecting with them through your own passion for the industry which has come from your own experience, from tender to construction.

If you have the requisite passion for the building industry and want to genuinely contribute to it, in a unique way, please contact:
