We are seeking an experienced, driven and motivated individual to join our busy Planning and Building Services team on a permanent full-time basis.

As a Senior Building Control Officer you will hit the ground running ensuring building inspections and related work are undertaken efficiently and to a high standard whilst appropriately managing risk. Building strong working relationships will be a breeze with your exceptional communication skills being put to good use when dealing with contractors, the public and Council clients.

You will assist the Team Leader - Building Services in mentoring and monitoring staff performance and development, ensuring Council is efficiently and appropriately meeting its obligations under the Building Act and other relevant legislation. You will have excellent technical knowledge and be experienced in processing and inspecting building consents to Res 1, 2 and 3 and Com 1, 2 and 3 and have the ability to deal with associated building control functions whilst ensuring policy and procedure is followed to a high standard.

The successful applicant will hold a Regulation 18 qualification, have a minimum of five years demonstrated experience as a Building Control Officer with a sound understanding of the Building Act 2004, New Zealand Building code and any other relevant legislation. Though not essential, a trade qualification in carpentry or related field will be looked at favourably.
