South Taranaki District Council

Are you looking for a new career or a change of scenery? We are looking for a customer-focussed people-person to join a busy, progressive team that's working to meet customer expectations and the requirements of the Building Act. If this sounds like you read on.

This position is responsible for administering the systems and procedures of the Building Consent Authority, ensuring legislative requirements are adhered to, assessing and approving applications for Building Consents, carrying out onsite building inspections, all whilst managing and maintaining relationships with those that you are working with, from developers to members of the public.

The successful candidate will be a team player, someone who knows how to connect and maintain relationships within Council to get things done, and someone who has empathy for the challenges and risks faced by building consent applicants, while keeping a steady eye on the legal requirements. While we are keen to hear from people with a proven experience in the building industry, we are just as keen to hear from applicants who think they have the people skills that this role also requires. We will train the right person. You will have a strong emphasis on quality customer service, be able to work well in our small but multi-skilled team, be proactive with a positive attitude, and have a sound ability with great written and oral communication skills.

A good level of computer skill is required, as well as experience in using document management systems and databases. You will already have some of this knowledge or have the capacity to upskill quickly. Excellent relationship-building skills and the ability to multi-task and manage your time effectively to ensure a team approach to meeting deadlines is also required.

The South Taranaki District Council offers a proven "Best Place to Work" environment and the chance to join an energetic, progressive organisation. We encourage innovation, employee leadership development and you will be working with a dynamic and motivated team.

If this sounds like you, head over to our website www.southtaranaki.com where you can access the background information and job description for the role. If submitting an application, please ensure you provide a covering letter outlining your skills and experience for the role along with your most current CV.

Applications close at 4 pm on Sunday, 27 October 2019.
