Our Building Services team is part of the Environmental Services department here at the Tauranga City Council, and is responsible for ensuring the safety of people living and working in buildings! As more people and businesses realise the benefits of living and working in Tauranga, we have been working hard towards supporting the sustainable use and development of resources, and delivery of our City's built development, environments and activities.

We are looking for an experienced Building Control Officer to join our Building Services team. Reporting to the Supervisor: Building Control Officer Processing, you will be responsible for providing professional, high quality processing and certifying of building plans and related documentation. You will also be the key contact in advising and assisting customers on building consent matters and, as required, undertaking building inspections and determining the inspection outcome.

For this role, you will have;

  • A relevant building and/or plumbing trade qualification or experience
  • Established competency assessed pursuant to the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
  • Sound knowledge of legislation relating to the building industry, and the ability to interpret relevant Building Acts, Codes, Regulations and Acceptance Solutions.
  • Strong and effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to provide advice to a wide range of clients relating to a variety of building projects
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Attention to detail and a systematic approach to work
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and excellent time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Customer-centric approach
  • A focus on business improvement
