Building Surveyor – Expressions of Interest

Selwyn District Council is seeking expressions of interest from experienced Building Surveyors to join its Residential Building Team. Full-time permanent opportunities are available within both the Residential Processing and Residential Inspections teams.
These roles contribute to ensuring safe and compliant residential development across one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing districts.
Responsibilities include:
- processing or inspecting a wide range of building consents
- providing expert advice on Building Act matters
- working collaboratively with applicants, architects, licensed building practitioners and internal council teams to support quality building outcomes.

Senior Building Surveyor – Residential Processing

A rewarding opportunity is available for an experienced building professional to join a high-performing team as Senior Building Surveyor – Residential Processing in Rolleston.
Working within one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing districts, this role plays an important part in supporting safe, compliant development across the community. Reporting to the Residential Processing Team Leader, the Senior Building Surveyor helps lead the day-to-day delivery of building consent processing, ensuring operational workflows run smoothly and quality assurance systems are consistently applied.
Key responsibilities include:
- assessing and making decisions on building consent applications
- providing technical guidance and mentoring to team members
- supervising surveyors working outside their current competency levels
- ensuring quality system documentation and sign-offs are completed in a timely manner.
The role requires sound judgement, risk-based decision making and a strong understanding of the New Zealand building regulatory framework.

Senior Building Control Officer

The Senior Building Control Officer plays a key role in helping Council meet its statutory obligations under the Building Act 2004 and related building regulations, contributing to the safety and quality of the built environment.

Solutions Team Limited is seeking experienced Residential Building Consent Processing and/or Building Inspection professionals to join its Selwyn-based team. Supporting Building Consent Approvals Ltd — New Zealand’s first and only nationwide Building Consent Authority (BCA) — this role focuses on R1 to C1 residential consenting across the Canterbury region.
The successful candidate will:
- Assess, inspect, and process residential building consent applications
- Provide clear, practical technical advice to homeowners, builders and stakeholders
- Maintain accurate documentation and compliance records
- Contribute to training, supervision and team capability development
- Participate in CPD and competency assessments
- Support continuous improvement of systems and service delivery.
Applicants must hold a Regulation 18-compliant qualification, a full New Zealand driver’s licence and at least two years’ recent residential construction experience.
