Who We Are

Established in 2014, Solutions Team Ltd delivers expert building compliance services across New Zealand. We are committed to working collaboratively with our clients to achieve practical, risk-based regulatory compliance, always focusing on the best possible outcomes.

Drawing on decades of experience in the building and construction sector, along with strong local government and industry networks, we provide cost-effective, high-quality solutions tailored to a wide range of needs.

Our services include building consent processing and inspections, technical training, and professional and management support. We work with councils, government agencies, construction companies, and private clients alike, and have built a strong reputation for professionalism, reliability, and quality service.

About The Role

The Building Inspector role involves undertaking on-site and remote building inspections, along with providing professional, practical and technical advice to builders, homeowners, property owners and other key stakeholders.

A strong understanding of the Building Act 2004, New Zealand Building Code and relevant inspection procedures will be important in ensuring building work meets legislative, contractual and Council requirements.

The position will suit someone who enjoys a varied workload, takes pride in delivering quality work and values being part of a team where knowledge and experience are shared.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting building inspections across a range of residential and commercial projects.
  • Assessing building work and building consent applications against relevant legislation, the New Zealand Building Code and approved inspection processes.
  • Providing clear, practical and professional technical advice to builders, homeowners and key stakeholders.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation, records and reporting to support quality, compliance and effective decision-making.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider team to achieve consistent, high-quality outcomes.
  • Supporting training, mentoring and knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Maintaining competency through regular assessments, ongoing learning and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of systems, processes and service delivery.
  • Building strong and professional relationships with Councils, clients, builders and other industry stakeholders.

About You

The successful candidate will bring a current Competency Assessment, preferably at a minimum R3/C1, along with a Regulation 18-compliant qualification and a full New Zealand driver’s licence.

Recent, hands-on experience in the building or construction industry is essential, ideally with exposure to residential projects. A sound working knowledge of the New Zealand Building Act, Building Code, Acceptable Solutions and Verification Methods is also required.

Strong computer skills are important, with confidence using Microsoft Word, Excel and consent processing or workflow management systems to support day-to-day work.

A genuine commitment to customer service will be highly valued, together with the ability to manage challenging conversations, resolve conflict and communicate clearly and professionally with a diverse range of stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will be practical, collaborative and solutions-focused, with a positive approach to working as part of a supportive, high-performing team. A willingness to share knowledge, contribute ideas and continuously develop technical capability will also be an important part of the role.

Why Join Us?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing organisation where the work has a real and visible impact — not only on systems, processes and KPIs, but on the communities and people who rely on quality building outcomes every day.

We offer above-award salary packages and flexible working arrangements designed to genuinely support work–life balance. A practical approach to flexibility means we’re open to finding ways of working that suit both our people and the needs of the business.

Our culture is shaped by the people who make up our team — those who back each other, solve problems together, share knowledge and enjoy a bit of humour along the way. It’s a collaborative, supportive and down-to-earth environment where people are encouraged to contribute, develop their skills and have a say in how we continue to improve.
