Our city is growing and transforming. Increasingly, Upper Hutt has become a lifestyle choice for people wanting a higher quality of life – living, working and recreating closer to home and family. Upper Hutt is rich in the natural environment and education opportunities, and businesses are choosing to invest in our city.

Unsurprisingly, the built form of our city is changing too. We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join the Upper Hutt City Council Building Team and be part of our city's transformation.

Is that you?

  • Are you searching for a new opportunity that will help you learn, develop, and find better work-life balance in a supportive, open team environment?
  • Do you want your contributions to be recognised as part of a larger purpose? Would you enjoy working with talented colleagues who are dedicated but also know how to have fun?
  • Are you excited to start each day curious about what opportunities await?

Then you may just be the team member we are looking for.

Upper Hutt City Building Team is seeking a qualified and motivated professional to join our expanding Building Control Services team in response to strong commercial investment, a growing housing market, and continued development within the city. Ideally you will have:

  • A sound knowledge of the Building Act, Building Code and other relevant legislation as it relates to the building industry.
  • An appropriate qualification in building or a design-related field that will be recognised by Regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006 OR A relevant technical and/or trade qualification and be willing to work towards a Regulation 18 qualification.
  • 3+ years relevant experience in the building industry is preferable.
  • An ability to confidently and clearly communicate technical issues and concepts.
  • Excellent customer service focus, including good listening skills.
  • Competent in MS suite of products, general computer use and the ability to adapt to new computer programs easily. The ability to use GoGet is an advantage.
  • Good administration and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads to meet statutory deadlines.
