About the role:

Our Building Control Officers play a vital role in ensuring Council meets its obligations under building control legislation, while Senior Building Control Officers provide leadership, guidance, and support to our officers. This diverse role offers a mix of consent processing and on-site building inspections across homes and businesses throughout the Southland district — delivering plenty of variety, along with some of the best scenery to complement your workday.

Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • granting and issuing building consents and project information memoranda
  • undertake inspections of building work to ensure it meets the requirements of the Building Code
  • issuing supporting documentation including code compliance certificates and compliance schedules/statements
  • in the Senior BCO role, review, evaluate and document the output of building solutions staff working towards a more senior competency in either inspecting or processing
  • ensure all documentation is issued within legislative time constraints and in alignment with building code regulations

To be successful in this role you will ideally have:

  • previous experience as a building control officer or building control signatory (or building industry experience for a cadet)
  • a technical qualification in alignment with building regulation 18 or equivalent
  • a strong drive to succeed and be motivated by continuous improvement
  • high attention to detail, organisation and communication skills
