Position Overview:

We are seeking experienced Building Control Officers to join our team on a contract basis, either based from our office in the beautiful Nelson/Tasman region or working remotely for the right candidates.

As part of a collaborative and high-performing team, you will contribute to delivering quality outcomes and meaningful work within the building compliance sector. Whether your expertise lies in building consent processing, inspections, or you are experienced across both areas, we welcome your application.

In this role, you will provide support to Building Consent Authorities (BCAs) across New Zealand by assessing and processing building consent applications, offering sound technical guidance, and helping ensure compliance with relevant legislation, the Building Code, and industry best practices.

The Role: 

  • Process and assess building consent applications for compliance with the Building Code and Building Act.
  • Review and evaluate plans, specifications, and associated documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with applicants, designers, and contractors to clarify technical details.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all assessments and correspondence.
  • Contribute to efficient and consistent building control processes within the team

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must hold a Regulation 18 qualification under the building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
  • Proven experience in building consent processing or a similar building control role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Building Act 2004, Building Code, and related regulations
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills are required, including confidence using MS Word, Excel, and workflow or consent processing systems.

Remuneration:
This is a contract-based position, with remuneration negotiated according to qualifications and experience.
