Who We Are

Building Consent Approvals Ltd (BCAL) are a growing, forward-thinking organisation and New Zealand’s first truly independent nationwide Building Consent Authority (BCA). We provide an alternative to Council BCAs, delivering professional, commercially focused consenting services to residential developers and building companies.

Our independence is what sets us apart, allowing us to provide a more efficient, effective and customer-focused consenting experience for the building industry.

We work with established, reputable developers and building companies, building strong partnerships based on trust, transparency and shared accountability. Our focus is on adding genuine value through responsive, consistent consenting services aligned with our clients’ wider development and construction objectives.

By working collaboratively with our clients and establishing clear KPIs and service expectations, we aim to improve the efficiency of the consenting process, reduce compliance and construction costs, and deliver better outcomes for our clients and the communities they serve.

About The Role

As a newly established role, you will play a key part in shaping how BCAL attracts, supports and retains customers, while directly contributing to the growth of building consent volumes across New Zealand.

You will lead BCAL’s customer sales and experience activities across the full customer journey — from identifying and winning new business through to onboarding, relationship management, retention and account growth. This is a high-impact opportunity for a commercially driven and relationship-focused leader to build a strong sales function, develop lasting customer relationships and contribute to BCAL’s continued growth and development.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing BCAL’s sales and business development strategy and plan.
  • Identifying, pursuing and converting new customer opportunities.
  • Building and maintaining a strong, measurable sales pipeline.
  • Developing trusted relationships with decision-makers across the building, construction, property development, architectural and related sectors.
  • Managing the end-to-end onboarding of new customers, ensuring a smooth and positive transition into BCAL’s services.
  • Maintaining regular and proactive engagement with existing customers.
  • Understanding customers’ future building consent requirements, anticipated projects and expected lodgement dates.
  • Identifying opportunities to increase consent volumes, customer loyalty, retention and repeat business.
  • Leading BCAL’s customer sales and customer experience team, providing clear direction, support and accountability.
  • Monitoring customer feedback and using insights to drive continuous improvements in customer experience and service delivery.
  • Working closely with BCAL’s technical, processing and operational teams to ensure a seamless customer experience from initial engagement through to consent delivery.
  • Reporting on sales activity, customer acquisition, pipeline performance, forecast consent volumes and overall commercial performance.

This role will combine strategic sales leadership, business development, customer relationship management and commercial growth, with the opportunity to make a tangible impact on BCAL’s customer base and future success.

About You

You are someone with energy, commercial drive and a genuine passion for building strong customer relationships. You enjoy identifying opportunities, winning new business and turning relationships into long-term partnerships and growth.

A confident and proactive approach will be key to your success. You will be comfortable engaging with senior decision-makers, understanding customer needs and converting opportunities into results. You take ownership, thrive in a growing environment and are motivated by achieving targets.

You will bring:

  • Proven experience in business development, sales, customer experience or account management, with a track record of achieving growth targets.
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation and relationship-management skills.
  • Commercial judgement and the ability to identify and convert growth opportunities.
  • A disciplined approach to pipeline management, follow-up, reporting and forecasting.
  • Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders, alongside resilience, initiative and accountability.
  • A genuine commitment to exceptional customer service and relationship building.
  • Strong organisation and problem-solving skills, with a hands-on approach to getting results.
  • Adaptability and enthusiasm for working in a growing and evolving business.

Experience in building consents, construction, property development, architecture, engineering or a related industry is advantageous, as is experience with CRM and sales reporting systems.

Above all, you will be relationship-driven, commercially astute and results-focused, with the energy and drive to make a genuine impact at BCAL.

Why Join Us?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing New Zealand business making its mark in the building industry. As BCAL continues to expand, this newly established role will play a key part in shaping our customer strategy, strengthening relationships and driving future growth.

You will have the autonomy to make a real impact, build strong customer partnerships, identify new opportunities and help shape the way BCAL grows.

Join a collaborative, supportive and forward-thinking team, with opportunities to grow alongside the business, competitive remuneration and performance incentives aligned to results.

This is your opportunity to help shape BCAL’s reputation as a trusted industry partner and contribute to the continued growth of an ambitious New Zealand company.
