Building Control Officers

Who We Are

Established in 2014, Solutions Team Ltd delivers expert building compliance services across New Zealand. We are committed to working collaboratively with our clients to achieve practical, risk-based regulatory compliance, always focusing on the best possible outcomes.

Drawing on decades of experience in the building and construction sector, along with strong local government and industry networks, we provide cost-effective, high-quality solutions tailored to a wide range of needs.

Our services include building consent processing and inspections, technical training, and professional and management support. We work with councils, government agencies, construction companies, and private clients alike, and have built a strong reputation for professionalism, reliability, and quality service.

About The Role

We are looking for experienced Building Control Officers to join our team, with opportunities available across New Zealand — including flexible and remote options for the right people.

You will be part of a high-performing, supportive team that takes pride in delivering quality outcomes and doing work that genuinely matters. Whether your strength is in consent processing, building inspections, or you’re already dual-competent across both, we would love to hear from you.

In this role, you will support Building Consent Authorities (BCAs) nationwide. You will play a key part in assessing and processing building consent applications, providing trusted technical advice, and ensuring compliance with legislation, the Building Code, and best practice standards — all while working in a way that can suit different locations and working styles across the country.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assessing, inspecting, and processing building consent applications in line with legislation and the New Zealand Building Code
  • Providing clear, practical, and professional technical advice to homeowners, builders, and key stakeholders
  • Maintaining accurate and reliable documentation, records, and reporting to support quality and compliance
  • Contributing to training, mentoring, and team development to strengthen technical capability across the team
  • Supporting competency requirements through regular assessments and ongoing CPD (Continued Professional Development)
  • Actively contributing to continuous improvement in service delivery, systems, and processes, helping us keep things efficient, consistent, and effective

About You

This role requires a Regulation 18-compliant qualification and a full New Zealand driver’s licence.

A minimum of two years’ recent experience within the building or construction industry is required, ideally within residential projects, along with a strong understanding of the New Zealand Building Act, Building Code, and associated compliance documentation.

Intermediate computer skills are required, including confidence using MS Word, Excel, and workflow or consent processing systems.

Strong customer service capability is essential, along with well-developed conflict resolution skills and the ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and confidently with a wide range of stakeholders.

Collaboration is key, supported by a practical, solutions-focused mindset and a willingness to contribute as part of a supportive, high-performing team.

Experience within a Building Consent Authority (BCA) or similar regulatory environment is highly desirable, though applications are also welcomed from candidates with strong capability, the right attitude, and a willingness to learn and grow.

Why Join Us?

This is a great opportunity to join a growing organisation where your work genuinely makes a difference — not just to systems, processes, and KPIs, but to the communities and people who rely on them every day.

Remote and flexible working arrangements are available for the right people, because we know great work doesn’t only happen in one place (and sometimes it happens best without a commute and with better coffee at home).

We offer above-award salary packages and flexibility that actually means something — whether you’re an early riser, a structured planner, or someone who hits peak performance after your second coffee and a bit of quiet space, we’re open to making it work.

Our culture is shaped by our people — those who show up, back each other, solve problems together, and occasionally get way too invested in office snack rankings. It’s a supportive, down-to-earth environment with a good mix of professionalism and humour to get through busy days.

How to Apply
