Building Control Team Leader (technical)
This role will encompasses the general requirements and functions of the Building Consent Authority (BCA) and the Territorial Authority (TA), so they are implemented and managed efficiently, effectively and appropriately in accordance with the Building Act 2004 and regulations. Emphasis is placed on providing ‘Technical Leadership’, guidance and mentoring of team members, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction (internal and external)

It demands a high level of skill relating to all BCA and or TA functions ensuring these are carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Building Consent, Building Act 2004 and Building Code.

The primary functions of this role include;

  • Actively providing supervision, training, and development of technical team members to meet legislative requirements and achieve performance goals.
  • Carry out discretionary powers permitted by legislation and delegation that may require investigation, interpretation and or assessment of buildings or building work including enforcement of those powers.
  • understanding the built environment,
  • interpreting and assessing building plans, specifications, and related documentation,
  • interpreting and applying the requirements and provisions of the Building Act, Building Code, and other relevant legislation,
  • assessing situations holistically and or in isolation to ensure the best outcomes
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and systems, and to ensure they are followed by their respective team members.

Building Control Manager
This position requires a combination of critical skills that ensure the success of a building regulatory team to fulfill its obligations and functions.

A successful manager will demonstrate a high level of skill in the following areas:

  • Managing, leading, mentoring and developing staff
  • Strategic leadership
  • Communicating with internal and external staff and customers
  • Technical knowledge and interpretative abilities of the Building Act and regulations, including the requirements of maintaining accreditation.
  • Assessing situations holistically and or in isolation to ensure all considerations are made with the best outcomes for all.
  • Be able to relate well with their local industry trades
  • Having a sound understanding of local government, council policies, procedures, meetings, and protocols relevant to this position
