Required Technical Qualifications
- To work as a building surveyor in New Zealand, there is a qualification requirement as outlined by the Building (Accreditation of Building Consents Authority) Regulations 2006. Complying with Regulation 18 ensures all employee and contractors performing building control functions by doing a technical job have a technical qualification.
- A building control officials (BCOs) technical qualification can be supplemented by any work or trade experience, and any further training or study they undertake.
- A Building Consent Authority must have a system for ensuring that each employee and contractor who performs the authorities building control functions by doing a technical job;
1) has an appropriate specific New Zealand qualification; or
- 2) Is working towards having an appropriate specific New Zealand qualification within a reasonable time; or
- Has an appropriate foreign qualification recognised in New Zealand that is equivalent to a specific New Zealand qualification
