General Business:
Peter thanked Auckland Branch executives for planning future face-to-face meetings.
Hasan encouraged and mentioned he would like good attendance for the next meeting given the change in location from previous Auckland meetings. The location, 119 Main Highway, Ellerslie (Higher Performance Building), provides good parking for those driving to the meeting.
Guest Presentation: Pryda:
Daniel welcomed and introduced Sriraj Varier from Pryda to present on using screws in new applications. These screw are increasingly replacing conventional connectors such as truss tie-downs, stud ties, and lintel connections.

Q&A:
Q: The speed truss is screw fixed down through the top chord. How will it work where the truss has a raised heel?
A: In the case of a raised heel, you may have to use strap tie-downs.
Q: Are you working on a faster fixing system for raised heel trusses given how common they are likely to become?
A: Yes, currently Pryda has a 150 and 200 screw which have been finalised although they are looking for longer screws which can be imbedded in the top plate.
Q How does roof bracing with a raised heel truss connects to the walls?
A: connect the raised heels in an “X” pattern, into the top frame of the plating, like having a side gutter.
Guest Presentation: Frank Risk Insurance
Daniel Harrison welcomed and introduced Ashley Mason and Andrew McFetridge to present on common issues when arranging liability cover for Building Inspectors for example, leaky building coverage.
Please click here for a copy of the presentation
Peter Laurenson advised BOINZ wrote into our ABS Code of Practise that all Pre-purchase Property Inspectors/Accredited members must have insurance to practise in this area as a member.
Q: Do designers have to be a part of the New Zealand Registered Architects Board, or LBP accredited to obtain insurance?
A: There is no legal requirement to hold insurance. The only sectors which require insurance are law and engineering.
Q: What should a certificate contain as proof of insurance?
A: It should be on an official letter head and clearly state:
A) the policy number
B)The beginning and end date of the insurance
C)It should have an official seal on it as well.
Every insurer does it slightly different but those are the main things to look out for.
