Wellington growth plan 'golden opportunity' to get rid of 'eye-wateringly ugly' buildings

A "golden opportunity" to get rid of architectural eyesores could be on the horizon, after the adoption of an high-density urban plan for Wellington.

Planning for Growth, a strategic plan aimed at accommodating an estimated 50,000 to 80,000 new Wellingtonians in the next 30 years,

was unanimously accepted at a Wellington City Council city strategy committee meeting on Thursday.

"I could take you on a tour of buildings that are just eye-wateringly ugly, and cheap building," councillor Nicola Young said.
