Number of new residential dwellings consented in Auckland soars
New data shows that more new dwellings are being consented in Auckland than ever before.
Latest figures show that 13,874 new dwellings were consented in Auckland in the year ending April 2019, an increase of 18 per cent compared to the April 2018 year.
"Auckland Council has a critical role to enable the delivery of new homes in Auckland through our regulatory teams and it's exciting to be in an environment where we're consenting at levels that haven't been seen in the council's history", says Mayor Phil Goff.
For the January 2019 to April 2019 period 4634 new residential dwellings were consented which is up 24 per cent on the same period last year.
"When we look at the full picture of construction activity such as residential alterations and new commercial and industrial buildings the total number of building consents issued in April climbs to over 1500 which is remarkable," says Goff.
The value of Auckland's building work associated with all building consents issued in the past 12 months is $9.6 billion, a new record for Auckland and up 15 per cent on the previous 12 months.
