Law Society building in Wellington due closed to earthquake risk

The New Zealand Law Society's Wellington headquarters has been shut down after parts of the building were found to be earthquake prone.

The New Zealand Law Society moved out of its national office at 26 Waring Taylor St, after receiving a seismic assessment report on Friday afternoon.

Spokesman Geoff Adlam said the board of the Law Society met soon after and decided to close the office. More than 100 staff are now working from home or in offices around Wellington while the Law Society searches for temporary accommodation, Adlam said.

Adlam would not comment on the name of the engineering firm that completed the report or the new build standard rating of the part of the building that was declared earthquake prone.
