The relationship between the Council and the local plumbing industry was celebrated at the 2019 Waikato Master Plumbers Awards last week.

Hamilton City Council's building inspection team picked up the award for Contribution to the Industry at the organisation's annual awards held at Wintec on Friday.

The award recognises a person or team for their contribution to the plumbing industry through value and commitment. The Council's inspection team work with the industry to inspect all plumbing and drainage work as part of a building consent.

Waikato Master Plumbers secretary David Whitfield said the Council was nominated by members of the organisation.

"The Council's inspection team continually provide great service to the plumbing and drainage industry and are actively trying to make it better for our trade. We're all bound by legislation and this team work with us to look at new ways to do things to get the right outcome for everyone involved."

The Council's building inspections team leader Anthony Morris said the award is the result of his teams' tireless efforts to support the plumbing and drainage community in Hamilton.

"This award shows we are on the right track and is a great example of how the building team is working alongside our city's plumbers and drainlayers to meet the demands of the growing city."

General manager city growth Jen Baird said she is proud of the team for being recognised for their commitment to the industry.

"The inspection team play an important role, in a sometimes very challenging environment, to ensure the safety and quality of the buildings that become part of the fabric of Hamilton for decades to come.

"We're expecting an extra 12,500 homes in Hamilton by 2028 and working closely with key stakeholders like Master Plumbers is going to be even more important as we continue to grow."
