  The Code Fit Fire series aims to increase knowledge and practice with Protection from Fire, focusing on C/AS2 and stepping learners through this Acceptable Solution and associated topics.   This course provides a valuable opportunity for BCA and TA staff to refresh and strengthen technical consistency, competency and confidence across compliance schedule and BWOF functions. This one-day course covers three key parts of the compliance schedule process: High-level Compliance Schedule Framework and Performance Standards, Specified Systems Inspection and Compliance Verification, and BWOF Auditing and Ongoing Compliance.

  This comprehensive two-day workshop provides participants with a thorough understand of Fire Documents C/AS1 and C/AS2. Day two brings the learnings to life with a practical component.   H1 Made Practical: Changes, Calculations and Modern Construction Methods.

  Keep up to date with the latest H1 requirements and strengthen your practical understanding of energy efficiency compliance.

  This one-day training course provides a clear refresher on the key principles of NZ Building Code Clause H1 with a focus on the changes introduced in recent years that will help with building consent assessment, design documentation and construction.

  The course will include:

  • An overview of the key H1 changes and current compliance pathways- Primarily aimed at H1/AS1 and H1/VM1.
  • A practical refresher on insulation, thermal performance and construction detailing
  • Practical examples designed to help participants apply H1 requirements consistently and confidently including an interactive Calculation Method exercise

• Intermediate Clause D1 Access Routes/ TA016 Clause F1-F4 Safety of Users - Online Zoom

  A must do and must understand two part course for all BCOs. This two subject one day course defines the specific technical requirements of the NZBC Clause D1 Access Routes and NZBC Clauses F1 - 4 Safety of Users.  The course sets out the performance requirements and how to meet these to provide safe and accessible access routes and most importantly safeguard people from injury or illness.

  The Difficult to Consent provides guidance on New Zealand's regulatory system and how to apply it beyond the normal bounds of typical residential, commercial, and industrial construction.   • Assessment: Guidance, tools and methodology; relevant determinations and precedents; and application documentation
  • A Worked Example: application of the above

  Regulatory Address: How to provide information without being sued

  Ratepayers and the courts expect that local and regional councils can be relied upon to maintain accurate records and provide information upon request. Requests by the public for information can come from a variety of sources including over-the-counter advice, LIMs, websites, district plans, and entries on the titles of properties.

  Whenever information is provided, there is risk. The regulatory address will look at how to navigate that risky space - how to provide information that is useful, robust, and accurate, while protecting yourself and your employers from legal claims.

  The address will be followed at 5pm by a networking function.

  This advanced course provides a practical, higher-level look at Certificates for Public Use, with a focus on the judgment calls that tend to make CPUs difficult in practice. Using practical examples and discussion, the session examines grey areas, common weaknesses in CPU applications, the evidence and site information needed to support a decision, and how to record reasons in a clear and defensible way.

  Topics covered include: Legislative framework, When a CPU is required, Who is and is not "the public" for CPU purposes, What the TA is actually assessing, The relationship between the CPU, Compliance Schedule, and specified systems, Evidence and application material, Inspection and site assessment, Making the decision, Common problem areas, case studies, and key takeaways.

  • Coaching versus Policing - shifting the inspector mindset in a competitive environment, enforcement options, and developing judgement and risk management in junior staff.

  This course will provide participants with a working knowledge of those clauses of the NZBC that provide for the quality, amenity and user safety within the internal spaces of our built environment. The correct application of these Code Clauses is essential to achieve an acceptably safe and healthy internal environment. • Foundation Level - H1 Energy Efficiency - Online Zoom

  8 October 2026 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

  This entry level course will provide an understanding of the mechanics of heat transfer and how to provide insulation of various types to ensure a building provides a safe and warm environment that is energy efficient and meets the requirements of the New Zealand Building Code (NZBC). It includes the amendments bought in by MBIE in November 2021.

• Intermediate Remote Inspections - online

  14 October 2026 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

  This practical half-day course is designed to build confidence and consistency in undertaking remote inspections for building consenting. Participants will be guided through a step-by-step process for planning and carrying out remote inspections, while collecting the compliance evidence needed to support inspection decisions in accordance with their BCA's policies and procedures.

  The course demonstrates practical techniques for adapting inspection skills to a remote environment, including effective site navigation, maintaining spatial awareness, gathering suitable evidence and recognising the limitations and risks associated with remote inspections.

  Attendees should have a dual-screen setup (three screens preferred) and be reasonably confident using digital technology. The course is intended for experienced Residential 2 and Residential 3 inspectors.

• Section 112 alterations to existing buildings - online

  This course from the 2025 Advanced Series is designed to help participants increase understanding, apply consistently and avoid common pitfalls with Section 112 - one of the most applied sections of the Building Act 2004. The course covers: triggers, escape from fire and access upgrading requirements, the ANARP test, meaning of 'continue to apply', Section 112 (2), balancing benefits and detriments and 'what not to do-s'.

  4 November 2026 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm
  This half-day course helps TA/BCA staff make clear, consistent and well-recorded section 115 decisions when a building, or part of a building, is proposed to be used differently. It focuses on the practical decision pathway: identifying the real-world intended use, translating that use through the correct regulatory lens, deciding whether sections 114 and 115 are triggered, identifying the section 115 assessment areas, applying ANARP, requesting the right information, and recording the written decision.
