- Alana Reid – BOINZ Board Member and Southern Branch Representative introduced herself to the members.
- Tony Osbourne raised the topic of Unlicensed Plumbers/Gasfitters – Southland have made a complaint to the Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board via their website about an unlicensed Gasfitter issuing Gas Certificates. Response from board was they would look into it. Follow up three weeks later they said they were waiting to hear from Gasfitter, three weeks later the BCA received more gas certificates from the same gasfitter and it was found out 10 days after the complaint was laid he was relicensed by the board. Email received from board today was they were still investigating the complaint. Other BCA’s have had similar issues when lodging complaints regarding LBP’s, Gasfitters, Plumbers – advice was not to give up and to keep following up with the board. Tony is looking at taking this to the local MP and also adding this to his submission on the Consenting System. Other options are to contact Work Safe if the work is considered to be unsafe/dangerous. Tony will give members an update at the next meeting.
- Michael Hartstonge asked members if anyone has issued a Notice to Fix under Section 365 of The Act. Michael had an issue at Notice to Fix the day before the meeting – the owner was directed to conduct work to make a building safe and they didn’t do it, building had then fallen on the highway - originally it wasn’t stated as a dangerous building so Section 365 of the Act was used.
- Dana MacKay (Membership, Engagement, and Communications Manager) introduced herself to the members. Dana conducted a short online poll to see what content/times and days members preferred from our meetings. Results were all content offered/morning meetings when online & Fridays.
- Previously there was a Natural Hazards training session scheduled to be held at Dunedin, Neil McLeod will contact Rice Spier to see when this could be rescheduled. Tony Osbourne mentioned Southland would be keen to send 5-6 members to this.
- Stu Chapman asked Dana if it would be possible to find a presenter on either H1 or Natural Hazards for our next meeting – Dana is going to look into this.
