2025 Symposium - Exciting Field Trips

Explore Christchurch’s Innovative New Developments & Restoration Projects!

Get ready for an unforgettable experience as we invite you to explore the exciting new buildings and cutting-edge projects emerging in Christchurch.

Thanks to the support of the Christchurch City Council, we’ve organised exclusive field trips offering a behind-the-scenes look at state-of-the-art facilities currently under construction.

In the wake of the 2011 earthquake, Christchurch has undergone an incredible transformation, with innovative buildings and large restoration projects taking shape across the city.

Many of these projects are nearing completion this year, making it the perfect opportunity for those in the building surveying industry to get up close and personal with these iconic developments.

Discover the unique features, designs, and areas of interest that set these structures apart, and gain valuable insights on buildings that are shaping the future of the city.

The final field trips are currently being finalised and once confirmed will be included in the Symposium, registration.

For those who have already registered, the events team will be reaching out to offer priority access to select their preferred trips (please note a deadline will apply).

For any questions, feel free to contact the events team at admin@boinz.org.nz.

The new $56 million theatre comprises a 377-seat main playhouse auditorium, a 120-150-seat studio theatre, front-of-house facilities and is a full production house, funded in partnership with Christchurch City Council.

The venue features high levels of flexibility and deep integration of technical facilities.

Maximum capacity for this Field Trip is 50 people.

Christchurch Town Hall

Join us for a fascinating journey through the heart of Christchurch's architectural history!

The Christchurch Town Hall, originally opened in 1972, and was severely damaged, leading to its closure after the Christchurch Earthquakes in 2011.

However, thanks to a visionary decision by the Christchurch City Council, the Town Hall was fully restored as part of the development of the new Performing Arts Precinct.  The iconic Auditorium, James Hay Theatre, Limes Room, and entrance foyer were meticulously preserved, reopening to the public in 2019.

This field trip takes you behind the scenes of this restoration and highlights some of the complex challenges that were tackled to strengthen the building while retaining its historic charm.
