MINUTES OF SOUTHERN BRANCH TRAINING AND NETWORKING EVENT
Time & Date: 9.30am – 3pm Friday 28th March 2025

Welcome:
The Branch Chair, Stu Chapman, opened the meeting and welcomed members and guests. With the number of unfamiliar faces, around the room introduction was conducted. Sarah Abrey, Invercargill manager, undertook health and safety, which was critical given the large earthquake earlier in the week.

Presentation:
Michael Hartstonge was presented his medal in recognition for his 15 years membership. Michael acknowledged this through a brief speech alluding to how important and valuable a BOINZ membership is and even if you move on from a BCA environment, as he has, to continue your membership.

Action: Guidance documentation re; modular buildings
Decision: Group formed to create draft document headed by Arti Latchamamma (Clutha District Council) and supported by Peter Brookland (Dunedin City Council) and Olivia McGregor (Timaru District Council)

Correspondence In/Out:
- Southern Cluster modular building guidance
- BOINZ life member passing (Colin Gray)
- BOINZ 2025 training prospectus – this was circulated around the room, as well as advising the room to engage BOINZ for training or if there were requirements that BOINZ currently didn’t cater for, to first discuss this with Kirsty Wallace, Professional Development Manager, training@boinz.org.nz
- James Hardie presentation at the upcoming meeting in June – Branch Executive asked the room if anyone had anything specific they wanted included, and to contact Olivia, Branch Secretary.

CPD update and change
BOINZ values and visions workshop – a very engaging session where members worked in groups to answer questions posed by BOINZ.
General Business:
- There is a CPENG workshop being held in Dunedin with Martin Pratchard. Contact Brent Cunningham on bcunningham@waitaki.govt.nz to book a spot.
- Durability of a slab when the building process is halted e.g. slab is down for 3 years prior to continuation of construction. Does the slab still comply e.g. water retention.
- Three waters; BFP requirements. Building consent and compliance schedule when inside the boundary. Solution being sought such as apply for blanket discretionary exemption for this. Would have parameters round this.
Guest Presentation:
Nick Jones from Naylor Love gave a presentation of the new museum construction, Te Unua, in Invercargill. This was supported by the architect, council representative and Beca representative talking about the Greenstar aspect. This was followed by a site meeting.
