Welcome

Auckland Branch Secretary, Hasan Shueb welcomes existing and new members.

BOINZ Board Update – Peter Laurenson, President of The Building Officials Institute.

  • The 2021 Board has the final meeting on the 20th of May. President Laurenson thanks members who voted in the Board elections. He noted we had more people nominated than there are positions on the board, which was a great result.
  • The BOINZ AGM will be on the 30th of May via Zoom. President Laurenson encourages people to RSVP to receive the link for this meeting.
  • BOINZ’s financial year ending in December 2021 made a modest profit of $30,000 against the budget of a $19,000 loss. Year-end reports will go out to members shortly.
  • BOINZ 2021 consultation submissions include building products, modular components made in 2021. BOINZ has started its submission for the Building Code Update 2022. This update covers hollow core floors, residential fire safety, and plumbing and drainage. If you have ideas for the submissions BOINZ puts forward, please email Nick Hill at nick.hill@boinz.org.nz   
  • Changes to code mark scheme rules, and how they accredit bodies.
  • Future skills want feedback on the level six diploma and proposals to have the degree available to us.
  • Conference/SBCO in Rotorua starts on the 7th of August. President Laurenson encourages award nominations; they are a great way to recognise your peers. President Laurenson suggests nominations for the Young Building Control Professional of the Year award, Unsung Hero Award, and Innovator of the Year award. Further details for the awards are on the BOINZ website.
  • 2021 Branch elections and AGMs are continuing, President Laurenson thanks those who stand up and contribute to their branch executive. Peter encourages members to submit ideas for branch meetings.
  • Licensed members are required to meet their CPD requirements each year, the CPD audit is coming up. President Laurenson encourages members to update their CPD records in MY BOINZ.
  • BOINZ Entry to BCAs course part one has been launched and part two is from the 22nd of August to the 11th of November.
  • BOINZ currently has 43 Accreditation members across New Zealand. Accredited members are becoming more important as the prices of homes increase. There will be four accredited courses throughout the year.
  • The Autumn edition of Straight Up was recently released and included the CVs of the Board nominees. The winter edition of Straight Up will be released in June. Members are encouraged to submit their ideas for Straight Up by President Laurenson.
  • BOINZ TV series one, Geotechnical/Liquefaction was released earlier this year. BOINZ received good feedback regarding this series. The next episode will be presented by GIB who will cover GIB substitutions.
  • BOINZ website has been refreshed and BOINZ national office encourages feedback on the website.

AGM:

Chairperson’s Annual Report

  • The first meeting was meant to be held on the 3rd of March at Winstone Wallboard. Due to COVID restrictions, this meeting was postponed.
  • The second meeting was held on the 21st of April at Metro Performance and Glass. This meeting included a site visit.
  • The third meeting was held on the 23rd of June. This meeting had two presentations. David Gilbert from Nuflow presented first. Gilbert discussed partial and complete manhole rehabilitation processes. Pryda has a sample in the meeting.
  • The last meeting was held in July with Belcanto. Belcanto discussed Aluminium balconies which have been increasing in popularity in Auckland.
  • Auckland won the Branch of the Year award 2021 at the BOINZ conference. Hasan thanked members and speakers for their combined efforts in 2021. Hasan also thanked all the members of the Auckland branch executive for helping run the branch in 2021.
  • Daniel Harrison also won the Emerging Leader Award in 2021.

Branch Chairperson Election

Hasan Shueb was nominated to be Chairperson for the 2022-2023 term. The national office received nominations prior to the meeting. There were no other nominations for Chairperson at the time of the meeting.

A vote was taken via Zoom poll. Out of 53 attendees, 40 voted in favour of Hasan as chairperson for the Auckland Branch.

Branch Secretary Election

Daniel Harrison was nominated to be secretary for the 2022-2023 term. The nomination was received by the national office prior to the meeting. There were no other nominations for the secretary position at the time of the meeting.

A vote was taken via Zoom poll. Out of 53 attendees, 41 voted in favour of Daniel as secretary for the Auckland branch.
