Paul's presentation largely focused on the ongoing industry discussions on passive fire updates and changes.
Paul outlined problems encountered by industry and potential solutions regarding a passive fire strategy.

A quick study - Dame Judith Hackitt Review following the Grenfell Fire was discussed

  • NZ issues - challenges around test data, designs, installer training, minimal coordination, alternative solutions, nz construction methods (13mm wallboard walls, thin floors, non insulated walls)
  • Not enough uniformity in construction practices. Difficult to get technical data for many proposed components
  • Passive system; how many people have died due to ineffective passive fire protection and what's the odds the product will ever be required or needed?
  • Common factors - "Char" factors, "wooly wording", "Passive Consultants"
  • Tendency to think will we have a fire like that in NZ? Often deviates from the purpose
  • FPANZ (Fire Protection Association New Zealand) - Initiative to improve industry underway
  • Design Consent register

Key Contributions by RyanFire have included:

  • Training - NZQA Level 3 Passive installer qualifications contributions

  • Code compliant product installation
  • Product test report - AS 4072.1 Assessment, AS1530.4-2005-fire test
