  • Welcome to Tim Chaplin, the new Building Consent Officer at Central Hawkes Bay District Council
  • The Building System Legislative Reform discussion paper is required to be in by 16th June. Member submission are to be sent to Nick Hill by Thursday 13th June.
  • Congratulations to Ben Swinburne for being awarded with the Pacific Steel Young Builder of the Year Award at the BOINZ Excellence Awards.
  • BRANZ have developed Artisan Tech, which Auckland and Tauranga Councils have assisted in testing. Artisan allows a builder, plumber, engineer etc. to take photos of completed work, submit the photos to the BCA Inspector, who will either fail, pass inspection or require additional photos/information. The programme has been introduced to improve consenting efficiencies and reduce the backlog of inspections.
  • BOINZ have added an ANARP (As Near as Reasonably Practicable) course which is due for release in July. There is also a new Advanced Difficult to Consent course which covers areas such as vehicles like tiny houses, containers, yurts and shipping containers. If you are interested, contact Jason Goei at Training@boinz.org.nz or 04 743 6002. These courses are currently running.
  • The Senior Building Control Officers Forum is on 21st - 23rd August, it would be great to see a good attendance from the East Coast Branch.
  • Make sure to keep up with the changes to Verification Methods and Acceptable Solutions. Changes to the following Acceptable Solution and Verification Methods came into effect on 27th June 2019
  1. B1/VM1: Concrete Structures

Guest Presentation:

Presentation by Willie Jensen - Ardex

Topic: Ardex Weldtech Membranes

  • Ardex membranes are designed in New Zealand. The manufacturing is done in Christchurch while Head Office is in Auckland and the distribution plant is in Wellington.
  • The membranes are a synthetic Polymeric blend, resistant to geothermal and atmospheric agents including heat, sun and ozone.
  • BRANZ Appraisal pending, third party testing to NZBC has been completed.
  • The membranes are available in 1.2mm, 1.5mm with a fleece back, all are available in grey or black.
  • The sheet is glue fixed and laps are hot air welded to provide a secure application. This means there are no seam tapes or detail tapes. The parent material can be used for flashing (meaning less waste).
  • Highly flexible - +330% VS TPO 24% Torch On 20% (elongation value).
  • Weldtec membranes boast lower Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) than Butynol or Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO). This mean that Weldtec is considered an eco-friendly product compared to other products that are in the construction industry.
  • Training programmes for applicators are under way throughout NZ July - August.
  • Similar Weldtec products available for undertile waterproofing for internal and external "wet areas" and for tanking or damp-proof membrane (DPM) situations
