Morning Presenter and Presentation:
Branch Chair Terrence Hayes introduced the morning presenter: Vishal Ramduny - Strategic Projects Manager for Waikato District Council. Vishal's presentation was focused on the planning and strategic development of the Waikato/ Auckland corridor.
Vishal highlighted how the initiative began. Some of the key matters of discussion centred around former meetings with the Ministers and the Mayor in Wellington. Corridor initiatives were then set by the Cabinet which then established a leadership group.
Several workshops were initiated with various Government departments and Iwi organisations. In February 2019 discussions centred around the Endorsements of Shared Spatial Intent for the Corridor.
Works involving future proofing the partnerships established included; Central Government Auckland Council, Auckland Iwi and Franklin Local Board in addition to existing Future Proof partners (Waikato District Council, Hamilton City Council, Waipa District Council, Waikato Regional Council and Tangata Whenua.)
The scope of project was significant and unique in that it has presented many challenges that cut across many Government and administrative boundaries, and presented benefits such as:
- Improving housing affordability and choices
- Enhancing the quality of the natural and built environments
- Creating vital communities
- Improving access (mass transit/public transport-orientated service) to employment and public services and amenities.
Lunch Function: 12:00-1:00pm (Kindly provided by EBOSS)
1:00 - 3:00pm
The afternoon training forum covered medium density materials by way of interactive workshop and included various manufacturers and suppliers. Branch Chair Terrence Hayes introduced Matthew Duder from EBOSS who provided a general overview of who EBOSS is and what they do, who their key partners are and a summary of how their system works with suppliers and key manufacturers.
Presentation:
Matthew gave a brief overview of the key partners via a video presentation, The 6 exhibitors were APL, Kingspan Insulation, Rondo Installations, Resene Construction systems, Juralco Aluminium, and Roofing Industries.
Mathew then covered an overview of EBOSS, he ran through the online system and how to manage your way around the website. He discussed the current issue around the number of products available in the market being 600,000 and the difficulties of meeting compliance with NZBC and the challenges this creates.
There are a lot of what he referred to as "Orphan Products" being used in NZ and the complexities of manufacturers not being clear on what the Building Code requires. EBOSS therefore is the Instrument or the tool that provides quick and easy access to a wealth of technical documentation utilizing a very smart software program. This enables users to access products and systems, that ties them with the manufacturer, covering the scope, conditions of use, how it meets the requirements of the Building Code, and any implied warranties.
Members were then dispersed into several small groups and a round robin sessions began with groups sitting at each suppliers tables listening to each presentation - The presentation consisted of the following key suppliers and products commonly found in Medium Density Materials by way of Interactive Workshop and will include Various Manufacturers and Suppliers.
The program concluded with an afternoon networking function and refreshments at the Ngaruawahia RSA with the members and suppliers.
Key suppliers overview of presentations and product services:
APL - Philip Negus
APL's in-house testing facility, which subjects our window systems to 4284 & 4211 testing, window systems available for use. Like most products, windows and doors are often chosen on their ability to perform, this is usually the first KPI for them to achieve before selections can be made. In a medium density (multi-rise) environment the window and doors performance may be measured in different ways, but at the most basic level it's the ability of the window system to keep water out, comply with the deflection limitations due to wind, or move seismically to accommodate inter-storey movement.
He Highlighted that in the large cities thermal and acoustic performance are playing a major part in determining product selection. There is currently no formal data to determine the acoustics for Glazing however they are currently doing physical test and will provide updates to the industry when they come available. APL offers architects and designers product compliant documentation, to assist in their building application. This usually includes a copy of our calculations based on the architectural plans and/or window door schedule, test reports for our recommended systems, which is compiled into a project specific compliance document.
