TRAINING AND NETWORKING EVENT

Welcome:

Richard Lorgelly and Jennifer Clark were introduced as the new Branch Chair and Secretary.

Richard opened the meeting apologising for the cancellation of the first BOINZ event that was to be held last month, due to the extreme weather event. He then welcomed members, new members, and guests as well as extending a special welcome to the event’s sponsor – Paul Clark Technical Services

Richard also acknowledged the members from Kaikoura who were attending the meeting remotely via CISCO media channel in Kaikoura

Minutes of the previous meeting was circulated via the BOINZ website. These were accepted as a true and correct record. (Pervious minutes can be read here)

Board Representative Update:

Kerry Walsh: Board liaison for Canterbury/Westland Branch.

Kerry gave a summary on the sector skills in industry disciplines, and proposed Cadetship options that BOINZ are promoting along with linking job opportunities with overseas staff. Reminder that the BOINZ conference is on 13-16th may and that the program is complete.

Rob Tierney: Board liaison for Northland Branch.

Rob expressed his congratulations to Christchurch City Council for getting and keeping their accreditation and talked about how great the city was looking. On a result of the ongoing CPD rebuild

General Business:

Survey – A survey was circulated to member’s that were present, requesting feedback as to what they would like to get out of branch meetings. Any further comment, please contact Jennifer or Richard directly.

17 responses were received:

Having 7 meetings is preferred, with 2 or 3 site visits per annum. The meetings are going be held at different locations.

They should start between 4.30 and 4.45 and be an hour and a half long. Things that members would like to be discussed in the near future included, new products, cladding and wet areas and anything topical. Technical subjects of interest were E2, cladding, code changes, tech discussion, bracing, building code changes, durability evaluations, alternative solutions, acceptable solutions, 124 notices, Act Clauses, fire penetrations.

Guest Speaker

Paul Clark Technical Services Manager for Laminex

Paul Clark and Phil Ward presented Laminex “Strand” products to the attending members. The products are Strandfloor®, Strandboard® and Strandsarking®, with a focus on Strandsarking®. Strandsarking® is a high density reconstituted wood panel, it is used as a roof sarking material under shingles and other types of roofing products.

Next Branch Training and Networking Event: 8th May 2018, Christchurch Town Hall site visit. Also keep an eye on the BOINZ website for upcoming events.
