Survey

A survey was circulated to member’s present requesting feedback as to what members would like to get from branch meetings. Jennifer gave a brief finding of the summary and urged feedback from members as to what they would like to see or hear at their meetings. She also urged members to get involved in planning or presenting a meeting as well as participating generally.

Post meeting results of survey

17 responses were received:

7 meetings preferred, with 2 or 3 site visits included. The meetings to be held at different locations and should start between 4.30 and 4.45 and be an hour and a half long. Topics that would like to be discuss included, new products, cladding, wet areas and anything topical. Technical subjects of interest were E2, cladding, code changes, technical discussions, bracing, building code changes, durability evaluations, alternative solutions, acceptable solutions, 124 notices, Act Clauses, and fire penetrations. Most people recorded that one of the most important aspects of the meeting was networking and would like more discussion.

Guest speakers

Jennifer introduced the theme of this meeting which was "Decision making", then introduced the first speaker:

Kevin Thompson, Christchurch City Council - Presented 'A day in the life of a Building Inspector'. An interactive presentation which explored the role of a Building Inspector, how we record our reasons for decisions and how to best handle challenging situations. Members discussed issues that they have experienced on site and during processing. Members then shared them to the audience. There was a lively and engaging discussion.

Jennifer thanked the first speaker and introduced the second speaker:

Andre Winkleman, Christchurch City Council – Who presented a discussion on how we can be 'Satisfied on reasonable ground'. The discussion covered manufactured building solutions, how we can develop a "One Building, One building Consent" concept, and following on from the latest media attention on product failure, which also touched on the topic of product assurance. There was questions and debate amongst the members as to the issues involved in prefabricated units being built in one BCA and Consent being granted in another BCA.

The Powerpoint for Andres presentation is located here

A Special thank you to:
