Welcome:

Richard Lorgelly welcomed members and also extended a warm welcome to new members, visitor Bee Chan, President Kerry Walsh and guest speaker for today’s meeting Daryl Knowler of Potters Interior Systems

Attendance & Apologies:

The Chair thanked all members for their emails of acceptance and apologies which are noted on the attendance register. Richard requested that members RSVP for future events within 48hours for catering purposes, and also to make sure to sign the attendance sheet on arrival.

It was drawn to the attending of members present that minutes of the previous meeting were circulated via the BOINZ website. These were accepted as a true and correct record.

Board Report:

Kerry Walsh: President and Board liaison for Canterbury/Westland Branch

Kerry advised he was board liaison for Canterbury/Westland Branch for the 2018/20 term and invited members to contact him with any issues that they would like to raise to the board. Kerry then updated members on activities of the training academy, including the in-employment qualifications, the new certificate and other areas. You can find out more about training provided by BOINZ on the BOINZ website here. Kerry also mentioned SBCO, scheduled for the 15th-17th August that spaces are filling up quickly but there is still time if you would like to attend.

Daryl Knowler, Potters Interior Systems

Richard introduced the first speaker Daryl Knowler from Potters Interior Systems. Daryl presented on passive fire protection. We looked at test reports, good and bad examples of installation, and he also brought along some sample products, that allowed attending members to understand application use and requirements for installation

David Hutt, Christchurch City Council

Member David Hutt presented on ‘What is a building’ focusing on the ‘tiny house’ guidelines recently released by Christchurch City Council. Discussion then expanded on how ‘Tiny Houses’ are treated in each region. A Special thank you to Daryl and David for their informative presentations and the Waimakariri District Council and especially John Blanken for the provisions of refreshments and hosting the meeting.

Next Branch Meeting: 22nd August at Kaikoura District Council offices in Kaikoura. Mark Mitchell will be hosting this event. The subject will be Earthquake recovery in Kaikoura and will include a presentation, museum tour, a site visit on Saturday, and a informal social event on Sunday.

As this meeting is on a weekend you are welcome to bring your families. More information will be available shortly.
