General Business:
Bryan Clark:
Discussed the issues around PS1 certificates covering B2 and the lack of engineers providing this.
Bryan also asked if anybody reported an LBP member to the board? No one has recently.
Bryan Jacobsen:
Asked if anybody was carrying out building audits. It transpired most councils were doing both desk top and site visits. The site visits were more often carried out on high risk buildings.
Aldo Fehr:
C/S on old buildings where the S/S were installed prior to the 2004 Building Act. Is a C/S required when the system was installed under the 1992 Building Act but not a new building? Most councils have differing ideas on what they would do.
Derek Dykstra:
Provided the meeting with information regarding an LBP who had been fined recently and questioned why local councils in the area where these LBPs work are not informed of the boards decisions and fines. There was a recent tip off about a builder moving to the district who had previously been convicted of fraud in relation to building consent documents and C.C.C documents.
Murray Kidd:
On the 1st July 2018 the new Fire and Emergency New Zealand 2018 regulations come into effect. Murray advised members presents, some key changes they should be aware of.
Guest Presentation:
Andres Martinez from Cheal Consultants presented on “good ground” as per NZS 3604. Andres explained penetrometer testing and what to look for in regard to test results. Andres went through NZS 3604-part 3 site requirements and how a Geotech engineer will work through to decide on ground bearing etc. Andres also covered different foundation and slab design in relation to ground bearing and how far down the good ground was located.
Bryan Clark the Central Branch Chairperson closed the meeting at 1.50 pm
Special thank you to Ruapheu District Council for providing morning tea and lunch and to Andres Martinez from Cheal Consultants for a very informative presentation.
