Guest Presentation

Malcolm Christie, Account Manager, Potters Interior Systems

Malcolm discussed fire stopping, fire cells, where services pass through and the associated rules and regulations. He handed out fire box examples (up to 600mm wide) along with report handouts. Compliance can be granted and is relatively straight forward if supported with reports, test data and PS3s (Construction) from the installers. It is recommended and important to involve a passive fire professional early on in a project, to ensure everything runs smoothly. Malcolm discussed the issues eventuating on site from contractors drilling holes in fire walls for services etc. He concluded, that the more consultation between manufactures, designers and contractors the more effective, and the learning and outcome is highly likely to be compliant. BCO's can help in making this known to all parties.

Training Tour of the JNL Facility in Kaitaia

Chris Maskell, Juken New Zealand Limited

The attendees drove to the JNL for the factory tour, where they were shown the complete process of how JNL products are manufactured

It was explained that since 1991, Juken has built its reputation on producing high-quality wood panels, engineered wood, and solid wood products. Their products are used in building applications around the world, including projects demonstrating ground-breaking innovations. The logs come from forests they plant, care for and harvest on a sustainable basis. Juken's plantation forests are located in the East Coast and Wairarapa regions of New Zealand's North Island. There are four modern and environmentally clean wood processing mills located in Northland, East Coast and Wairarapa.

2.30pm

An Afternoon tea was had at the Te Ahu Centre. BOINZ Board Representative update was distributed to members around and an encouraging discussion was had around the new BOINZ Building Surveyor Careers booklet.

2.45pm

We then had a showcase presentation about the Te Ahu Building, the designing of its features, history and how important the building is to the surrounding community. We were informed about aspects of the museum and the significance of the displays and how they came to be at Te Ahu Centre Museum. At the conclusion everyone was given the opportunity to tour the Museum and look at all the interesting displays
