Minutes of Southern Branch Training and Networking Event

Correspondence In/Out:
Stu Geddes was made a life member at the BOINZ AGM, congratulations to Stu, also congratulations to Barry Holsted, and Russell Wall, each receiving awards for their contributions to BOINZ.
General Business:
Stu Geddes gave a summary of the BOINZ Conference outlining the presentations; he commended the quality of speakers. While networking with other BCOs, Stu noted that NZ wide there was a high work load within the industry. The trend toward a lower age of BCOs was supported by the presentation given by young BCOs coming through the cadet scheme. Stu said the presentation was well received and it was great to hear their stories about coming into the profession. Stu acknowledged Nick Smiths address to the Dinner Function. Stu reminded us of the Senior’s BCO forum coming up 23 - 25 August 2017 in Wellington and the BOINZ conference that will be held in Dunedin next year.
Peter Laurenson gave a Board update for July a copy is here. Meeting attendees also had the opportunity to go over points with Peter.

Presentation from Simon Elliotte Allied Concrete;
Simon gave an informative presentation going into detail about Allied products and their application methods. Products such as Ready Floor, Super Slab and different systems for enhancement of exposed finishes one interesting product being Glow stones for exposed concrete. There were some interesting points on avoiding floor failure, especially with regards to climatic conditions being one of the main problems when construction is under a tight schedule.
