Between 1 January to 30 May 2017: You can use either the existing version or the newly published version of the Acceptable Solutions or Verification Methods over this transition period.
From 31 May 2017: You must use the newly published version (the existing version is no longer considered an Acceptable Solution or Verification Method).
An exception is the transition period for D2/AS1. From 1 January 2017 to 6 August 2017 you can use either D2/AS1 Amendment 6 or Amendment 7 as an Acceptable Solution. From 7 August 2017 only D2/AS1 Amendment 7 can be used as an Acceptable Solution.
Mark also sought feedback on the new Go Shift system. A discussion was had on its merits. The idea of Go Shift is to standardise and align building consent processing across all participating councils, regardless of size, location or system. Go Shift aims to deliver a suite of online products, together with the ability to share building consent processes and resources between participating councils.
Guest Presentation:
"Canterbury & North Otago Foundation Soils" by Bob Hall, Director, and Cameron Hall, Civil Engineer, for R J Hall and Associates Ltd.
Bob introduced Cameron and himself he has been working in North Otago since 1979 as a Chartered Engineer and his son Cameron is currently work in Christchurch as a Civil Engineer. The presentation was very informative with interesting facts regarding the formation of the ground and how the sea level lowering by 100m had made the region prone to dust storms and hence the layering we now see today in cut away areas and to the other extreme of 3m higher sea levels and how this and along with some 16 to 17 glacial events helped form the alluvial and loess soils that we encounter today. He then expanded on the implications the different soil types have on construction methods. Cameron talked about liquefaction and types of foundation bearing.
