Field Trips - BOINZ BCA Leaders Forum & Symposium
This year we have three exciting field trips lined up which explore new buildings that have recently opened or are under way.
The field trips take place on Tuesday 5 May at 11.45am and include:
- New Zealand International Convention Centre
- University Precinct Walking Tour
- Waiatarua
University Precinct Walking Tour
Led by Auckland Council tour guides who were directly involved in these landmark projects, this tour will provide rare behind-the-scenes insight of the Auckland University Precinct, showcasing the collection of recently completed award-winning buildings.
These spaces are prime examples of how cutting-edge technology, strong cultural narratives, and a number of New Zealand-first design elements are thoughtfully integrated into modern architecture. The tour will also highlight sustainability innovations and complex construction solutions delivered within a dense urban environment.
This field trip is ideal for delegates interested in modern New Zealand architecture, urban development, and design excellence.

Waiatarua - Simplicity Ascot
Led by Shane Brealey, Managing Director at Simplicity Living, this tour will provide an overview of how Simplicity Living is approaching large-scale residential development.
The project will deliver 330 apartments, resident amenities including a rooftop terrace, a ground-level pavilion for work-from-home and shared use, and landscaped areas with 6,000 native trees and shrubs planned across the site.
With construction valued at $120 million and delivery approach averaging 1.8 working days to complete each new home, the development highlights a new model for delivering quality, long-term rental housing.
