Guest Presentation:
Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (PDGB): Martin Sawyers and Diana Kuhtz-Covich
Martin and Diana held a very informative and open conversation with the members present. The topic was around how the PDGB has grown and provides a more hands on approach to education, training and enforcement for its members, the public and Councils.
Encouraging communication when councils raise a concern and confirming that if enforcement is required then councils will need to make information available to their investigation officers, this would get results faster.
PDGB has apps and anonymous processes in place for the public to raise their concerns. They encouraged Members to consider using these.
PDGB advised they would investigate the interpretation of Section 41 of the Building Act 2004 and responsibilities of drain layers to advise councils of an insanitary concern and councils' decision if emergency works is applicable or not.
Window and Glass Association: Robert Campion
Members present found this refresher on windows and glass to be welcome. Robert provided clarity on how glass barriers are interpreted and advised the members of the proposed changes to flashing designs that are been reviewed.
Members agreed that it was encouraging to see how the standards review industry proposals and the checks and balances that are now required. This led to members feeling they can now place their trust in the standards.
