Guest Presentation:
Paul Hayman - SubBase
Paul is the creator of the Speedy Subfloor System and Director of SubBase. He has created a product that supports timber piles with 100mm clearance for concrete underneath in a quicker way than other methods. The system is attached to the base of the pile and then placed in the flooring hole and will remain upright without assistance.
Paul was very passionate about this product and as a designer he has found a way to provide some consistency for the 100mm concrete under standard 125x 125 house foundation piles with 500 kg loading.
SubBase 125 enables one builder to speedily set up 125mm2 piles and posts in their footings prior to adding concrete.
They support the pile to allow the required 100mm of concrete underneath. They can be easily fixed to the piles with screws or nails.
Each SubBase 125 supports 150kg piles and can be cut to length and bearers added before the concrete is poured.
Made from recycles plastic, SubBase 125 are low cost, strong, lightweight and stackable.
SubBase is BRANZ approved, and members agreed it was nice to see and alternative to NZS 3604-2011

Rod Newbold - Metal Roofing Manufacturers
Rod gave a presentation on Roofing Code of Practice. As Rod is no stranger to many of the members in the Northland Branch, he was able to give a very straight forward and personable introduction into the new look of the Roofing Code of Practice. Members agreed it was now in a better format and easier to navigate.
Rod brought up dissimilar metals and plastics products to discuss their corrosive nature, he stressed that designers need to take more notice of these details when specifying.
He went on to discuss E1/AS1 and how it addresses roof pitch, roof catchment and downpipes sizing.
He showed a sample of a roofing product called Colorsteel Dridex. This has been around for a sometime, but Rod believes that we will be seeing it more and more in the residential market as an alternative to building paper barrier. This is because it has a layer of anti-condensation fleece on the underside of each sheet.
