Minutes of the Central Branch Training and Networking Event

held on 3rd May At 10:0O am Tararua District Council 26 Gordon Street, Dannevirke

Welcome:

Marcus Deans Branch Chair opened the meeting welcoming guests and members

General Business:

• Murray Kidd outlined changes to the New Zealand Fire Service. As of the 1st July they will be known as Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ)

• Marcus Deans discussed moving branch meeting dates to avoid clashing with BOINZ Annual Conference and Christmas break , and support from local Councils to collectively establish staff training needs so as to hold BOINZ training courses locally to reduce travel costs as generally courses are held in main centers.

• Greg Hoobin, In respect of internal training at Whanganui District Council Greg is have his senior officers present a power point on specific Code clauses issues etc , and suggested if other Councils could do the same and would they share.

• Chris Wood raised the issue of imported garages and sheds being presented to Council for consent without producer statements or mean of compliance with NZ Building Code.

Guest Presentation:

Loren Dix of Forman Building Systems provided a presentation on passive fire with an overview of:

• Fire resistant ratings (FFR)

• Passive fire rated systems

• Structural steel protection

• How in-tumescent products work

• Fire stopping

• Fire stopping products, for wall , floors and ceilings

• Promat product/Insulation overview
