MINUTES OF CANTERBURY/WESTLAND BRANCH TRAINING AND NETWORKING EVENT

held on Tuesday 1 August 2017 at 4.45pm at Selwyn District Council, in the Council Chambers, 2 Norman Kirk Road, Rolleston.

Welcome:

Chair John Blanken welcomed members and guests.

John provided members with an update concerning Gary Nicol (Christchurch City Council). He is presently receiving rehabilitation at Laura Ferguson Trust in Ilam. Visiting is to be limited to 15 minutes and prearranged. We all wish Gary a full recovery and our best wishes and thoughts are with him during this time. We will send a card on behalf of all members of the Canterbury/Westland branch.

General Business: Daniel Scheibmair, Technical and Education Manager of BOINZ, spoke about the BOINZ perspective for training and education, as well as traditional BOINZ courses. This includes block courses and online assessments post course.

EBOSS Technical Roadshow is being held in CHCH on 21 September with eight suppliers presenting. This roadshow will be held nationally, twice yearly.

Guest Presentation:

Robin Curtis, CEO of NZ Sustainable Forest Products and Casey Thomson, Director of Hardie & Thomson Ltd provided a presentation outlining the new website that is to be launched nationally and internationally on the 18 August 2017. Hardie & Thomson have been in business for 110 years and NZ Sustainable Forest Products based in Reefton, have been operating for 11 years. Both businesses have partnered up to provide sustainable building products which can be installed alongside other sustainable products for healthier building systems. They endeavour to provide the best materials at the best price for many combinations of building systems.
