  • Chairperson’s Annual Report: Dave Currie, Northland Branch Chair.

Dave congratulated everyone on another year passed and thanked to all members and guests that have attended Branch Events throughout the year and welcomed new members that have joined the Northland Branch throughout 2017.

Dave sumarised points from the year gone, including the Annual Conference and asked that more members try to attend 2017. Dave also spoke about the collaboration between the four Northland Councils and where they are at and looking to go, the main point is we must all learn off each other and try our best within our cluster to help each other out where needed.

Northland Branch have had a good year with not many negative points raised and the gathered members agreed with this and thanked Dave and Jamie for the support over the year.

Dave Currie closed the Branch AGM for 2017 and continued with the remainder of the Branch Training and Networking Event.

Guest Presentation:

‘Marshall Waterproofing, an Overview’ by Lee Rayner, Northland Representative and Nick Batt, General Manager for Marshall Waterproofing New Zealand

Nick Batt who is Tauranga based and has been in the business 10 years and has taken a lot of the Marshall Waterproofing products through the BRANZ quality control system. Lee Rayner is Auckland based and looks after the Northland region.

Nick and Lee presented on some of the Marshall Waterproofing product range including Tekton, a complete weatherization system, a Tanking system, a peal and stick system for DPC, Pro-drain 8 for below ground water proofing installations, wall underlay, Trade Seals, super stick building tape.

Of note, the Tekton Weatherization System is a complete weatherization wall system that has been verified to pass zero-moisture tests, the system still allows breathability from the inside the structure. A Pro-Kickout flashing was also shown, which was interesting as it is for use on gable ends. It picks up moisture and drains into a downpipe without bending or moulding, as it is already shaped, this is hard to inspect once the cladding is installed.

There was a discussion around the Trade Seals product, which do not have to be installed prior to cladding, but can be slotted through with pipes from inside. This approach is BRANZ appraised, but not recommended as a primary installation methodology.

Nick and Lee advised Installers need to be certified to install most the systems shown, Marshall Waterproofing offers training to anyone wanting to install their products and offers videos on how to use their systems, hints, tips and tricks on their website. They also advised Marshal Waterproofing will be doing a Carter’s drive over throughout 2017 raising awareness, offering installation training and meet locals who are using the systems. Nick and Lee concluded their presentation by answering questions from the floor.

Following the presentation, Dave Currie thanked Lee and Nick for their time. Lee and Nick left 2 goodie bags which were awarded to attendees following a spot quiz.

Next Branch Training and Networking Event: scheduled for Wednesday, 22nd March 2017 at Kaitaia.

Dave Currie, Branch Chair, closed the meeting before inviting attendees to show off their bowling prowess, at 10 pin Bowling and Entertainment Centre and enjoy some well-deserved Christmas cheer at The Dickins Inn, kindly provided by BOINZ.

Special thank you to: Whanganui District Council and BOINZ for the venue and catering provided.
