Team Leader – Building Compliance (Inspections)

The purpose of this role is to provide effective leadership, mentoring, coaching, and management of the Building Compliance (Inspections) Team.  You’ll lead a significant team of Inspection and Compliance staff and contractors across two sites – being Queenstown and Wānaka.  You will be responsible for ensuring an effective, efficient and timely delivery of building inspection and compliance services within a busy environment with a significant variety of work, spanning Residential 1 to Commercial 3.

Key areas of focus and responsibility will include:

  • Leadership – you will have an appropriate technical knowledge of the Building Act, regulations and Building Code and be the ‘go to’ person for the team
  • Operational Management – you will keep an active oversight of all inspections and compliance activities and ensure that all Territorial Authority and Building Consent Authority accreditation requirements are met
  • Technical Management – you will establish and coordinate systems to manage and oversee the workloads of the team along with a focus on improving the quality and efficiency of outputs.
  • This is a challenging role with customer interface.  

Our Ideal Candidate

This role requires someone with:

  • Relevant professional experience (minimum 8 years)
  • Regulation 18 qualification required
  • Preferably competent to C3
  • Experience leading a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Technical and applied knowledge of the Building Act 2004, NZ Building Code, litigation and enforcement processes, Local Government Act 2002 and any other Act that may be relevant to this role and function
  • A current and valid New Zealand driver’s licence.
