Thames- Coromandel District Council

We have an opportunity to work with one of the best Building Control Unit’s in the country.

As Building Compliance officer no two days are the same.  The role’s varied work programme involves educating, inspections, monitoring, information gathering, advice and legal work both in the office and out in the field.

You will need to have an inkling for construction, a flair for design, like working with regulations and being part of a small supportive team.

You will need excellent interpersonal skills to connect with the diverse range of people we support across the district. Your self-confidence, diplomacy and sense of humour will serve you well in doing this.

You will also need an enquiring mind and the ability to analyse situations and information to make robust decisions, sometimes in difficult situations.

Previous experience in enforcement, investigations or a tertiary qualification would be great with a good eye for detail and being cool under pressure.

We are willing to support the right person to obtain a qualification in building control If you show initiative.

Ideally you will have:

  • Previous experience in enforcement and investigations or a tertiary qualification
  • A good eye for detail and be cool under pressure.
  • Computer literacy, including keyboard skills and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • An understanding of current NZ Building Code legislation would be helpful

We are looking for the right person so if you are limited on experience, we’d still love to hear from you.

If you believe you have the right skill set and the right attitude, we want you to join our team.

We offer a range of benefits that focus on supporting you and your family to live the life you choose.

Our culture, based around accountability and trust, empowers our team to achieve outcomes they didn’t think possible.  We are dedicated to building an inclusive team culture and thrive on agility, promote flexibility, and expect high performance.
