South Taranaki District Council

Full Time

We are looking for someone to help us make South Taranaki the most liveable district. For the planning and development team this means finding someone who wants to help the community build homes and commercial operations that are safe, with the least amount of fuss or impact on the environment.

South Taranaki is seeing an increase in the construction sector, and an increase in land subdivision that will lead to further increases in construction, in particular houses.

We know we are in a tight labour market. While our preference is to find someone with a good mix of experience and skills, we are prepared to train the right person. The right person is someone who is committed to the vision for the district, willing to learn, stay the course, be a team player and have a passion for meeting customer expectations.

The planning and development team is striving for a collaborative approach to help people who want to invest in the district. While this position will be mainly responsible for assessing and approving building consent applications, there will be opportunities for this role to expand and go beyond these core functions.

While qualifications and experience in the building sector will be held in high regard, the successful candidate will be a team player who knows how to connect and maintain relationships with customers and other Council staff. Someone who gets things done and has empathy for the challenges and risks faced by building consent applicants, while keeping a steady eye on the legal requirements.

A framework for remuneration based on experience, and the achievement and maintenance of competencies, has been developed for the building control officers. A willingness to undertake further professional development is required and expected of those appointed to these roles.

The South Taranaki District Council offers a proven "Best Place to Work" environment and the chance to join an energetic, progressive organisation. We encourage innovation, employee leadership development and you will be working with a dynamic and motivated team.

If this sounds like you, head over to our website www.southtaranaki.com where you can apply on-line and access the background information and job description for the role. If submitting an application, please ensure you provide a covering letter outlining your skills and experience for the role along with your most current CV. In terms of residence class visa applications, first priority will be given where the applicant is in New Zealand.

Applications close on Thursday, 21 January 2021.
