Waimate District Council

Are you a Building Control Officer looking for a fantastic new challenge in a beautiful location?

We have the perfect opportunity for you at the Waimate District Council!

We are the Waimate District Council, a tight-knit, family feeling and supportive team, ready to welcome you in and help you to succeed from day one. When we say family feeling we mean it, our Roading Manager has been here for 45 years - that's not something you hear of much these days. We exist to lead our communities towards a diverse, thriving and sustainable district - and you will get to be a part of that!

Our District has an incredibly welcoming community, affordable housing, good schools and plenty of outdoor recreational activities. Waimate is also home to some fantastic events including the Waimate Strawberry Fare and the Waimate 50 Street Car Race. We are growing and thriving, it's exciting to watch all of the new development taking place (you'll certainly never be bored).

We have a great opportunity for a Building Control Officer to join our busy Regulatory and Compliance Group!

As our Building Control Officer, you will hit the ground running, performing all Building Consent Authority (BCA) and Territorial Authority (TA) functions to a high standard. You will use your exceptional communication skills to build strong working relationships with builders, the public and Council clients.

Your day-to-day will involve:

  • Providing advice to the public in regards to the Building Act, NZ Building Code and Regulations
  • Assessing Building Consent applications for compliance and recording decisions to grant or refuse to issue consents
  • Undertaking final inspections and reviewing supporting documents to issue or refuse to issue Code Compliance Certificates
  • Reviewing and providing reports to the person responsible for the Quality Assurance System
  • Receiving and processing applications for Land Information Memorandums
  • Processing and issuing Project Information Memorandums and amendments to Compliance Schedules

To set you up for success, you will have:

  • A National Diploma in Building Surveying (small buildings) and/or National Diploma in Building Surveying (medium or large buildings) or equivalent qualification
  • Previous work experience in the building industry and regulatory environments such as BCAs
  • Knowledge of the Building Act, Building Code, Acceptable Solutions and verification methods, AS/NZS Standards, and other relevant legislation

If you are coming from outside of our wonderful district, we are happy to support you with relocation by supporting you with removal expenses and providing temporary accommodation.

If you are ready to take on a challenging, varied role and make a real and positive difference to the Waimate District, then this is the role for you. There are real possibilities for growth in this role so this is an opportunity you do not want to miss!

We are looking forward to welcoming you into our team with open arms - apply now!
