Tasman District Council

Based in Richmond, in the heart of the Tasman region, you can become a valuable part of our Building Assurance Team. This is a hands-on role, responsible for conducting timely building compliance inspections and taking appropriate action where non-compliance issues are identified under the Building Act. You will also carry out building warrant of fitness inspections and work with commercial building owners to ensure building safety systems are maintained.

While candidates with practical experience in the regulatory or investigative field of compliance are preferred, if you are from a trade/building background, technically minded with strong communication and negotiation skills, and a pragmatic approach we would like to hear from you. Working knowledge of the Building Act and construction experience under the NZ Building Code will also be a definite advantage.

You will be comfortable being out and about talking to building owners while your meticulous attention to detail and positive attitude is also a must. Confidence enforcing compliance regulations and working through sometimes difficult problems to find pragmatic solutions will all be in a days work while still keeping a smile on your face. The successful candidate will enjoy working in an interactive, task-focused, and dedicated team while gaining real satisfaction from seeing how this work contributes to the safety and wellbeing of the people of Tasman.

If the opportunity for ongoing learning and development excites you, we can provide extensive training to enhance your knowledge and technical expertise, while there are also opportunities to attain complementary professional building competencies. We offer flexible and remote working options, a day off for your birthday, relocation assistance, and a benefits package suited to your preferences.
