Taitara Mahi – Regional Construction and Demolition Waste Minimisation Advisor

3 year fixed term - 40 hours per week

Hastings District Council and Napier City Council are looking for a passionate and skilled person with a willingness to learn to join their Waste Minimisation teams as a Regional Construction and Demolition Waste Minimisation Advisor. You will be energetic and excellent at getting people on board with your ideas and sharing your enthusiasm for waste minimisation. You will need an understanding of construction and demolition realities in terms of resource recovery and how to deliver programmes to help the sector.

With huge opportunities identified in the Joint Waste Management and Minimisation Plan and also supported by the governance committee, now is the time to tackle these opportunities and make positive changes. This is also coupled with the expected changes from central government on how waste management and minimisation is to be delivered in NZ.

This role will become an integral part of our experienced and driven Waste Minimisation teams.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Relevant practical experience in the building and construction industry, or an appropriate tertiary qualification.
  • Knowledge and experience in project management or procurement directly related to the Construction & Demolition waste industry including best practice and national standards. 
  • Proven experience of developing and fostering relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective and strong relationships both internally and externally with a diverse range of people.
  • A passion for sustainability, the environment, and keeping Hastings beautiful.
  • Initiative and be able to work in a team environment.
  • A cool and collected manner when working under pressure.
  • An innovative and proactive approach to solving problems.
