Building Control Officer: Inspections

An opportunity has become available working within the Building Control division at Tauranga City Council (TCC) to help the community build better buildings as Building Inspectors.

This a role for someone who enjoys dealing with people. Who has the technical ability but likes to help and support customers. You will be responsible for undertaking building inspections, determining outcomes, and maintaining adequate records in relation to these inspections. You will be out there on site inspecting buildings and providing professional high quality support for the industry, as well reviewing information to issue code compliance certificates.  

A relevant building and/or plumbing trade qualification or experience and established competency assessed pursuant to the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006. Sound knowledge of legislation relating to the building industry, and the ability to interpret relevant Building Acts, Codes, Regulations and Acceptance Solutions.

A customer-focused approach and communication is key - you will need effective communication skills, both verbal and written and have strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills along with attention to detail and a systematic approach to your work.
