This position is located within the Planning and Regulatory Services Group.

At Hasting District Council we strive to provide exceptional customer service.  This role is the front face of the Building team providing advice to the public of Hastings.

As the Building Technician you will:

  • Meet with the public to provide building consent and building code related information

  • Research and respond to building related telephone queries

  • Check Building consent applications for completeness

  • Process building consent exemption and minor building consent applications

We are looking for someone who is friendly, well organized, and be able to fit easily in to an established and productive team.

The successful candidate will also have:

  • Well-developed written and oral communication

  • Experience in dealing with the public and handling difficult situations

  • Previous experience reading and interpreting building plans

  • Proficiency with computers and data entry

 

The successful candidate will receive on the job training. You will be required to develop a sound technical competency so that you can process minor building work applications.

You will be prepared to enroll in a programme of study to demonstrate you are working towards a diploma in small buildings. This is essential so that the Council can meet the requirements of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006. 

A job offer associated with this position carries a requirement to be bonded with Hastings District Council for at least three years.

This position would suit individuals with a previous background in building design, building construction, or a related building field.

An ability to correctly interpret and apply legislation and technical standards is essential for this role.
